A new California law (SB1343) requires that every company, with at least 5 employees provide comprehensive training on sexual harassment, abusive behavior, and sexual orientation before the end of 2019. The law requires employers to provide at least two hours of sexual harassment prevention training and education to all supervisory employees and at least one hour of such training to all non-supervisory employees. Training and education must be provided once every two years thereafter. This law applies to all industries as none are immune from the possibility of sexual harassment.

Major employers in the City of Long Beach include businesses and organizations in the aviation and aerospace, financial services, health care, hospitality and tourism, oil, technology and trade sectors. Employment is strong, from historic Long Beach airport to the Port of Long Beach, which, combined with its neighboring Port of Los Angeles, is responsible for processing about 39% of the country’s maritime international trade.[1] However, this success can be quickly overshadowed by accusations of sexual harassment, one of the hottest topics, one where the standards have changed dramatically. The training should also include prohibitions against abusive behavior and bullying.
